Great news.

In the midst of writing up my studio visit with Jenny Dubnau for fallonandrosof I received the very excellent news that Dubnau is having a solo show this fall. PPOW is the gallery. Kudos to them for recognizing such a skilled and smart painter.

Swoon in my 'hood, falling apart. Just like me.

I mean that in a good way.

Look At Yourself—Jenny Dubnau

Did a studio visit yesterday with Jenny for Fallon and Rosof. I'll write it up in the next week, but in the meantime here's a couple choice morsels. Whew. Oil and canvas, kickin' my ass.

Click on the images for the full effect. Trust me. And don't get me started on the disturbance sent forth by the liar painting. In fact, I dare you to look at it for more than 15 seconds without running to your therapist. Just because it's someone else's face doesn't mean that it's not a mirror.

Latest Post on Fallonandrosof

Precious Moments at Joymore. Seriously. The Liz Rywelski is rockin'. I'll try to say more here over the weekend.

The OG.

On my way back from seeing this fine little show at Joymore I came upon an Os Gemeos workout on Bedford. Do these guys ever miss? I think not.

Kill Your Idols

Don't get me wrong. Idols of Perversity at Bellwether is a really good show. Predictable, but good. Go see it. I have to say I've never understood all of the adulation that gets thrown Bellwether's way. Like so many of their shows this one doesn't quite live up to the hype. I found myself rolling my eyes a few too many times to make up for the excellent pieces by John Currin, Peter Schoolwerth, Ruth Marten, Tim Mensching, and a couple others. Idols of Perversity is also too forced to be the subversive action it aspires to be. Painting, feminism, and twisted sexuality. Ooooh. Who could have seen that coming in 2005? Much more satisfying shows can be found at Feigen Contemporary, Alexander and Bonin, and Castelli. Go see them too and moreso.

As far as more challenging and consistent galleries go, check out Maccarone, The Project, and LFL/Zach Feur. Dem belly full. This trio knocks it out of the park everytime. They all have thoughtful and fiery programs that never fail to excite. Eat them up, yum.
